Posted on March 5th, 2010 No commentsCompared to the life eight years ago, is the life of middle-class of America better? Of course, the answer is no. it is not the financial crisis in 2008 hit the cosy life of the middle-class. In fact, from an unknown time, the life has been worse. The growth of income can not come up with the living cost. For example, Petrol, food, health care, childcare and education costs are all increasing, their retirement saving becomes less, and their future life are more dark. At the same time, the housing market is reduced into the recession, which makes people who originally wish to make money by real estate appreciation afraid of their life. We should face the situation bravely that the income of middle class has been marking time for several times, in spite of the current economic down and the rising commodity prices. What’s more, we should have a comprehensive understanding of the current middle class in America.
The rich people are likely to be wealthier while the comparatively poor ones can not make it. Till now, the most well-off families account for one percent of the total number of the American families, which is the highest since 1929. In the Pennsylvania Democratic presidential competition between Barak Obama and Hillary Clinton, both of them kept repeating the same theme: vote for me, I will make for the middle class once again a better life. From this, we can see that the important status of middle class in American politic.
In some aspects, the middle class have a better life than that eight years ago. Thanks to President Bush’s tax cuts, their taxes are reduced. To some extent, they have more money for consumption. Therefore, there are many goods or stores which are aimed to earn money from the middle class. For example, most people from the middle class may buy their glasses from a secondary expensive shop, such the visionking.com where the glasses of famous brand and high quality are sold.
However, some of the middle class throughout the United States lead a more tough life. A survey shows: 41 percent of respondents said their lives better than 5 years ago, 31 percent of respondents said than 5 years ago. And in these years, the income of different occupational groups also changed. There is a substantial increase in the income of athletes, bankers, or rock stars, while inflation-adjusted minimum wage levels are declining. The middle class are confronted with the heavy stress of employment and unemployment. From this, we can see the declining status of middle class in America.
Walking in the street, we can pick out the middle class from the crowd by the stores they shop, and the goods they buy.
